How to Convert an Asset
Overview
The asset conversion feature allows you to generate alternative versions of a file using predefined conversion options. This is useful when you need assets in different sizes, formats, or resolutions for sharing, publishing, or compatibility with other applications. Conversion does not change the original file; it creates a temporary version for download.
Before You Start
- Asset conversion is only available via the Asset Details page.
- You must have permission to access the Conversion component to see available options.
- Conversion options are configured by your administrator in the platform’s settings.
Steps to Convert an Asset
- Open the asset in Asset Details.
- Scroll to the Conversion component (if available).
- Review the list of predefined conversion options shown.
- Click the download icon next to your preferred option to generate and download the converted file.
Conversion Options
Conversion profiles are configured in the platform admin area and determine which formats, sizes, and types are available for users. Each profile includes:
- Name and Description: Describes the conversion’s purpose (e.g., "Small JPG for Web").
- Type: Defines the type of source file it applies to — Image, Document, Video, or Audio.
- Output Format: The resulting file extension (e.g., JPG, PNG, MP4, PDF).
- Image Dimensions: For image conversions, width and height can be defined.
- Note: More advanced settings (e.g., resolution, compression level, quality) are supported through the platform’s API. If you need extended conversion capabilities, please contact support to explore available options.
Tips
- Converted files are downloaded directly and are not saved in the system.
- If you need a new conversion format, size, or file type, contact your administrator to request a new profile.
- Conversion options may vary depending on the asset type and the configuration of your platform.
Use Cases
- Sharing Flexibility: Quickly convert assets into formats required by partners or other platforms.
- Application Compatibility: Download versions compatible with presentation, publishing, or editing tools.
- Optimization: Generate web-optimized versions for faster loading or reduced file size.
