How to Add a Banner to a Folder
Folder banners let you display a rotating set of images at the top of a folder. Use them to highlight campaigns, announcements, or visual branding to anyone browsing that folder - or, when set to propagate, to every subfolder beneath it too.
Before You Start
- You must have permission to manage folder settings to create or edit a banner. Anyone who can view the folder can see a banner once it's published - no special permission is needed to view one.
- Have your banner images ready before you start, in PNG or JPEG format.
Banner Settings
- Enabled: Turns the banner on or off for this folder. A disabled banner is not shown, even if it has images added.
- Propagate to Subfolders: When on, this banner is also shown on every subfolder beneath this one, unless a subfolder has its own enabled banner.
- Height: Choose Small (160px), Medium (280px), or Large (420px) to control how much vertical space the banner takes up.
- Interval: Only appears once you've added a second banner image. Choose how long each image is shown before rotating to the next one, from 3 to 30 seconds.
Steps to Add a Banner
- Navigate to the folder you want to add a banner to.
- Open the folder actions menu and select Manage Banners.
- Toggle Enabled on, then set the Height.
- If you want this banner to also show on subfolders, toggle Propagate to Subfolders on.
- Click the plus (+) icon to upload a banner image (PNG or JPEG).
- Choose the Scale for the image: Cover, Contain, or Fill. If you choose Contain, also pick a background color (hex) to fill the space around the image.
- To add more images, click the plus icon again. Once you have two or more, the Interval dropdown appears - choose how long each one shows before rotating.
- Click Save to publish the banner.
How Banner Inheritance Works
A folder can show a banner in one of two ways:
- Its own banner: If a folder has its own enabled banner with at least one image, that banner is always used, regardless of anything set on parent folders.
- An inherited banner: If a folder has no enabled banner of its own, the platform looks up through its parent folders - closest first - for the nearest one with an enabled banner that has Propagate to Subfolders turned on, and shows that instead. If none is found anywhere up the folder tree, no banner is shown.
When a banner is inherited rather than owned by the folder you're viewing, a small label shows which folder it's coming from, so it's clear the banner isn't specific to the current folder.
Editing or Removing a Banner
- To change a banner, reopen the folder actions menu and select Manage Banners again - existing settings and images load automatically.
- To remove an image, use the remove button on it; to replace it, upload a new one over it.
- Deleting a banner entirely asks for confirmation first, since this can't be undone.
- Closing Manage Banners without saving discards any unsaved changes.
Tips
- Turn on Propagate to Subfolders on a high-level folder (like a top-level campaign or brand folder) to apply one banner across an entire section of the Library without configuring it on every subfolder.
- A subfolder with its own banner always takes priority over an inherited one, so you can override a propagated banner for a specific subfolder just by enabling a banner there.
- Keep the interval long enough that a viewer can take in each image before it rotates to the next one.
