About Folders
Folders serve as structured containers for digital assets in the platform, enabling teams to organize content clearly and efficiently. They support access control through user groups, allowing specific users to view or manage only the content relevant to them. By grouping users based on their profiles and permissions, administrators can manage visibility and interaction at scale.
Actions and Access
Folder-related actions are subject to platform permissions and may vary per user. Permissions are defined by administrators or users with appropriate rights.
Available Folder Actions:
- Upload Assets: Initiate an asset upload into the folder. (See Upload article)
- Upload Folder: Upload a complete folder from your device. (See Upload article)
- Customize: Access folder-level configuration options.
- New Folder: Create new folders within the current node. Multiple folders can be created simultaneously.
- Edit Folder: Update folder name and/or move to a different parent location.
- Delete Folder: Remove the folder from the platform (subject to permissions).
Folder Permissions Include:
- Create new folder
- Delete folder
- View folder information (and content)
- Modify folder
- Customize folder
These permissions determine which actions appear in the UI for each user.
Folder Customization
Users with appropriate permissions can customize folders to control how content is displayed or accessed.
- Hide Assets in Folder: Prevent assets (and those in subfolders) from appearing in general views.
- Use Folder Image: Set a custom thumbnail to visually represent the folder, with selectable image size.
- Folder Order: Choose between custom order or automatic sorting by folder name.
- Asset Order: Sort assets within the folder by last modified, creation date, type, or name. Ascending or descending options available.
Display Options
Users can change how they view folder contents by switching between grid, list, and map views using the view toggle. Users can also adjust the sort order of assets to fit their preference. These settings are personal and do not affect how other users see the folder.
Users with appropriate permissions can customize folder defaults, which control the default display and sort order for all users viewing that folder.

Best Practices & Use Cases
- Use clear, consistent naming conventions for easy navigation.
- Use nested folders thoughtfully-overuse can lead to unnecessary complexity.
- Restrict visibility through user group permissions for sensitive content.
- Apply folder images for improved visual orientation, especially in media-heavy libraries.
- Leverage metadata where possible to complement folder-based organization.
- Plan your folder structure according to teams, campaigns, regions, or content types.
