How to Upload Subassets
This guide explains how to upload subassets to an existing asset. Subassets are related or supporting files linked to a main asset, such as project files, source files, alternate formats, or supplementary materials.
What Are Subassets?
Subassets are secondary files attached to a primary asset. They provide additional context or related content without creating separate, standalone asset records. Common examples include:
- Source files
- Alternate formats or versions
- Supporting documents or specifications
- Project files or raw materials
Subassets inherit visibility and access behavior from their parent asset, keeping related files organized and connected.
Before You Start
- You must have upload permissions based on your user group and assigned permission sets.
- Subassets can only be uploaded from the Asset Details view of an existing asset.
- Subasset availability and visibility is controlled by the asset's Profile configuration. If the subasset component is not enabled in the profile, users may not see or access the subasset area.
How to Upload Subassets
- Navigate to the asset that should receive the subassets by opening it in Asset Details view.
- Locate the Subassets component within the Asset Details interface.
- Click the Upload button available in the subassets area.
- Select one or more files from your computer to attach as subassets.
- Click Confirm to finalise the upload.
- The uploaded files will now appear as subassets component and are linked to the parent asset.
Tips
- Use subassets to maintain a connection between finished assets and their source files.
- Subassets help reduce duplication by keeping supporting files attached to the main asset rather than creating separate records.
- Metadata for subassets can be edited after upload if needed.
