Important: Dwellings are a legacy feature and are no longer part of new Data Dwell workspaces. This article is kept available for customers who still have Dwellings enabled. If you are setting up new collections, use Portals instead – Internal Portals for internal collaboration and External Portals for external sharing.
Dwelling Records represent curated collections of digital assets organized around a specific theme, use case, or objective-such as a project, campaign, product, or event. Dwellings act as flexible containers that allow users to bring together assets from across the platform into a single, centralized collection, regardless of original folder location.
This makes Dwellings a useful tool for organizing content, simplifying collaboration, and streamlining sharing. Dwellings are used for internal work and support access control and tracking to manage how content is used and by whom.
Dwellings can be created by any user and configured with visibility settings, making them suitable for private collaboration or open team access.
Dwellings can be viewed in list or grid format:
Showcases no longer draw their content from Dwellings. A Showcase is now assigned a saved filter, which determines the assets that appear in the gallery. If you previously used a Dwelling as a Showcase source, set up a saved filter that matches the same assets and assign it to the Showcase.

The internal collaboration functionality previously provided by Dwellings has been expanded and improved in Portals. Internal Portals offer visibility controls, Portal Collections for organizing content, named contact access, and engagement metrics.
For all new work, use Internal Portals for internal collaboration and External Portals for external sharing. Existing Dwellings continue to work for workspaces where the feature is enabled.
Dwellings are a flexible way to bring assets together around a shared purpose, and remain supported for the workspaces that use them. They are not available in new workspaces – Internal Portals are the replacement and offer additional collaboration features.
