How to Check Folder Access
The access overview shows who can reach a folder, including access inherited from parent folders. Use it to answer questions like "why can this person see this folder?" or "which teams have access here?" without going through roles and user groups one by one.
Steps to Check Folder Access
- Open the folder in the Library.
- Open the folder actions menu and select Access overview.
- The Access to [folder name] panel opens. Choose a tab:
- Users: every user who has access to the folder.
- User Groups: every user group that gives access to the folder.
- Use the search box to find a specific user.
- Click Close when you are done.
Reading the Access Labels
Each row has labels that explain why the user or group has access, such as administrator rights, a role and the folders it covers, or whether the access is set on this folder directly or comes from a parent folder.
Tips
- The overview shows access but doesn't change it. To grant or remove access, change the roles in the relevant user group. See How to Create User Groups.
- Folder access is only part of the picture. If someone can see the folder but not a specific asset, check the asset's visibility level and asset user groups.
