How to Manage API Tokens
An API token lets a script or another system connect to the Data Dwell API as you. Create a token for each integration, and delete it when it is no longer needed.
Before You Start
- A token acts with your access. Anything the integration does is done as you, and it can reach what you can reach.
- Have somewhere safe ready to store the token, such as a password manager or your integration's secret settings. You can only see it once.
Steps to Create an API Token
- Click your initials or profile photo in the top right corner and select My Profile.
- In the Tab dropdown, select API Tokens.
- Click Create Token.
- Enter a name that says what the token is for, for example the name of the integration.
- Optionally, set an expiry date. After this date the token stops working.
- Create the token. It is shown once.
- Copy the token and store it safely. When you close the form, you are asked to confirm, because the token can't be shown again.
Deleting an API Token
Once created, a token can't be viewed or edited, only deleted. Delete a token when an integration is retired, or straight away if you think the token has been exposed. Anything using the token stops working.
Tips
- Create one token per integration, so you can remove one without affecting the others.
- Set an expiry date for tokens used for testing or short projects.
- If you lose a token, delete it and create a new one.
